The tree by the river
I've noticed this tree for many years. But it surprised me today while taking this photo to see a group of make-shift tents beneath it (you can see a bit of this in the lower right). It was so cold today I could hardly stand to be outside for the few minutes it took me to take this. I didn't see any people around the encampment, and I sincerely hope no one is living there at the moment. I've felt I'm not doing enough lately, when I pass people asking for help and I don't give it. I used to do that more. Not that I don't help people, I often do, and donate to certain things here and there. But it just seems so small when you think about someone actually living under a sheet next to the waste treatment plant, while you sleep in your warm bed. Not that I can fix that, even if I worked my whole life. But all of us together could, which makes it so tragic that most of us, including me, simply choose not to think about it as much as possible.
